Youwarkee's voyage in the Chesapeake and eastern seaboard
Pat and Diana Hitchinson, happy owners of Youwarkee, spent the fall of 2004 executing their Florida hurricane strategy, going up the coast to the Chesapeake (third time in three years). It was the right plan this time as Francis and Jeanne destroyed their marina on the St. Lucie river. Departing in late August, Youwarkee made the off-shore voyage to North Carolina in a couple of days. Two highlights were seeing a rocket launch at Cape Canaveral from the Gulf Stream, and crossing a migration path of hundreds of dolphins.
En route, Stephen from Island Spirit, caught Pat & Diana and convinced them to show Youwarkee in the Annapolis show a second time. The show was a great experience and resulted in lots of new friends. They can both now add sales to their resumes.

The south bound trip required a stop in Myrtle Beach to hook up with family. The Island Spirit boat speed was such that for a second time they arrived so early that they had to hove to awaiting sunrise to enter Little River inlet. A few days later, departing the ICW at next inlet at Georgetown, the passage became a sleigh ride with winds abaft the beam. A 16 hour spinnaker leg resulted in arrival at Ponce de Leon inlet less than 48 hours later.

The trip was judged a success as 90% of the harbors visited were new. They are presently cruising the Caribbean and we will get a report from them when they arrive back in the USA around June 2005.

"South of Reality"
"..Yes, this is the name of the latest Island Spirit to hit the shores of Florida. Byron and Denise are the proud owners of this beautiful Island Spirit. They are getting her ready for her voyage to the islands but before their long awaited cruising can become a "reality", they will first tie the knot and celebrate on board with their families. We wish them a safe and happy voyage and congratulations!

Congratulations to Byron Doane, who's boat won this parade of lights in Key west

KATIEKAT HAS ARRIVED IN MIAMI
As you all know KatieKat has arrived in Miami in April. The proud owners, Mike and Dianne Pfaff have taken possession of her and they were more than ready to learn all about their "new" lifestyle as live-aboard sailors. Mike and Dianne and their family set off on their maiden voyage on "Katiekat" from Miami to her final destination and home port, Cape Coral.

This was a memorable trip for the whole family! While delivering the boat to Cape Coral, Stephen from Island Spirit gave them sailing instruction and generally made them comfortable with the boat's handling and all the systems on board. They were instantly hooked on the life style.

"Katiekat" whisked along the Gulf Coast with her Spinnaker flying, pulling them along at a brisk six to seven knots while barbequing the Spanish Mackerel they had caught that morning! They anchored off deserted islands with white sandy beaches every night, snorkeled and enjoyed good food while the family regaled each other with some funny family "learning" experiences on board. (Stephen called those learning experiences, i.e. dropping things overboard, "yachting tax"). Ahhh….life on the water!

"Katiekat" performed exceptionally well as only an Island Spirit can. Stephen and Mike put her through her paces while all the while being mindful of the children and their safety on board. True to form, the Island Spirit behaved exactly what she was designed for, a fast and safe family cruising catamaran.

"Katiekat" was surveyed by Chuck Canter upon hitting the shores of Miami and was given a clean bill of health, in fact she got a glowing report and needless to say we were all extremely pleased, not least of all the new owner, Mike.

We are happy to report that "Katiekat" and crew survived hurricane Charlie in Florida, early August and in fact, "Katiekat" was their refuge in the days right after the storm. They lived comfortably aboard while electricity and water was being restored to the Cape Coral region.

ISLAND SPIRITS IN CHARTER
Aristo-Cat 11 owned by Mike and Jennifer Kneafsey is chartered in the BVI. This is their second Island Spirit in charter and they have had huge success doing crewed and bare boat charters. The Kneafsey's are great ambassadors for Island Spirit and have, through their own experience living aboard and chartering Island Spirits, greatly attributed to new innovative developments on the boat.

Mike is a licensed U.S. Coast Guard Captain and is an ASA certified keel-boat instructor. He has been sailing since childhood and runs the Twilight Marina Sailing School teaching beginning, novice, and advanced sailing lessons both on lakes and in the Caribbean.

Jennifer is a Biology teacher during the school year and cook/first mate as her schedule allows for the sailing ventures. She was first introduced to sailing while she and Mike were dating, and fell in love with both Mike and the sport. Mike and Jennifer will be joining the Island Spirit Team at the Annapolis Boat Show in October. Feel free to stop by the boat and hear all about their adventures!

Alex and Cheryl Hill's Island Spirit, "Mathmos" is chartered by Horizon in Granada in one of the most beautiful settings in the Caribbean. The Hills plan to go cruising in the next few years and fully enjoy their boat with Miss Bear, their beloved dog!

Their base managers, James and Jacqui Pascall have been on Granada so long that they are now considered "locals" and are a font of information on cruising in Granada and the Grenadines. It is a fabulous cruising ground for especially the adventurous sailor and since Mathmos has more than proved herself across the Atlantic, up the east coast of America and again back to the Caribbean to finally settle in Granada, guests need not worry about "braving" the seas on board Mathmos. We had received recent news that Mathmos had survived hurricane "Ivan" with a few minor scratches. We are so happy for the hills and we wish you good luck!

Free Spirit setting off to the Caribbean
Bill and Nancy McKenney, and sons Mike and Kris own and operate Go Native Yacht Charters in Miami Beach. Several years ago they took a sojourn from their professional careers to live aboard a sailboat and cruise the Bahamas for a year. They decided it was time to take the kids and the sailboat and "Go Native!" For a glorious year they enjoyed the "Cruising Lifestyle. Mike said…"the feelings of freedom and independence are difficult to describe. We loved it!".

When they returned from their cruise, they made a commitment to create a charter company dedicated to sharing their wonderful experience and Go Native Yacht Charters was born. Bob'sCat, an Island Spirit 37, is in their charter fleet and a very popular choice amongst their guests. Catamarans are especially popular for these cruising grounds as it is so shallow. The cruising area around Miami, Florida Cays, Bahamas and Tortugas are spectacular and are very close to home which makes it very easy for a weekend getaway.

There are several other Island Spirits chartered all over the Caribbean and the USA. We receive many letters from enthusiasts after a charter on board an Island Spirit. More and more people are converted from monohulls to catamarans for the sheer ease of handling and space and no other more so than the Island Spirit.

"Free Spirit" in the Caribbean
We have received this delightful e-mail and would like to share it with you…

"Dear Island Spirit…….. …… one of my co-workers just returned from sailing "Free Spirit" in the BVI and he said it is the best sailboat he had ever sailed. His wife, upon returning home, called a neighbor of theirs (who is one of our best friends) and just raved about the boat! I don't see why everyone doesn't own an Island Spirit 40. I've also been watching the http://www.sailonline.com   postings and one person did post that they were pleased to see Glen (VIP Yachts) is adding an Island Spirit 40 to his charter fleet. Word is getting around….."

Congratulations to Susan and Al Nahmias ! We at Island Spirit are happy to hear such positive comments / remarks being made about the yachts of all our owners.

"Free Spirit" was delivered to the Nahmias' in February 2004 after the Miami Boat Show. Susan launched a new career as yacht sales person and also launched her yacht charter company "Cays and Quays" at the same time at the show. We are rooting for you Susan! Your enthusiasm knows no bounds.

"Free Spirit" had been chartered in the BVI with Horizon since March 2004 and the feedback has been more than positive. The charter guests enjoy not only the sailing ability of the boat but also the comfortable accommodations and spacious entertainment areas! We wish Al and Susan and their guests many more happy sailing days on board "Free Spirit"!

Island Spirit in Southampton, England
Island Spirit has several dealers in Europe, Britain and America and Stephen visited one of the dealers called Calibra Marine International in Southampton in the southeast of England on his way back from the factory in South Africa.

Trefor, the owner of Calibra Marine treated Stephen to a wonderful tour of the Hamble river and Southampton while sampling some of the local beers in authentic old English pubs! Trefor and Tziona have their office in Deacons Boatyard in a picturesque setting with the Solent almost on their door step.

The Solent is the venue for the famous Cowes week regatta, now in it's 178th year, in August every year and is a huge attraction for sailors and spectators alike. Over 8000 sailors are reported to have taken part in the race this year and for the fist time this year there were multihull entries of between 25 ft and 40ft, proving that multihulls are steadily gaining in popularity in Europe and England.

IOLA at her moorings in S outhampton
Southampton also happens to be where "Iola" was delivered in early August. This is the first Island Spirit to arrive in England and Stephen went for a quick 'inspection' of "Iola" to make sure that all was in order and that the new owners, Derek and Lesley Mercer were happy.

The Mercers have already done extensive sailing trips to France and around Southampton since her arrival in early August. She is one of very few catamarans in Southampton and for that matter in England. We believe that the Mercers may have started a new trend in British Isles and we hope to see several more Island Spirits sailing in British waters. We welcome the Mercers to the Island Spirit family and we wish them many happy sailing days on board.

Calibra Marine will have a booth at the Southampton boat show starting September 10th. Trefor will feature the Island Spirit, so feel free to drop by and get some information and pricing.

E-mail received from owner Steve Gardner about the Island Spirit

"We are enjoying the boat very much. She sails well and everyone who has sailed with us is impressed with her. Recently we saw 10.8 knots speed in 15 knots of wind on a beam reach. The racers who were on board challenged the knot meter until they checked the GPS! We took 22 people up to Chesterton on Memorial Day. Two weeks ago we had 27 on board for cocktails at a club raft-up. The boat was down about 8 inches at the stern!" Steve Gardner is Commodore of a Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club.

Owners Cheryl and Alex Hill's website for their Island Spirit "Mathmos"

Check out their website at www.mathmossailing.com

If you are looking for a unique and truly peaceful experience, take a look at a bareboat charter from the Caribbean windward island of Grenada and sail up through the islands of the Grenadines. Our boat, Mathmos, is a 40 foot Island Spirit catamaran built in 2003 in South Africa. The South African cats are known to be some of the sturdiest and most stable catamarans in the world. So if you have always been a monohull fan, this one is definitely worth checking out.

We hope you love our boat as much as we do. Please send us pictures of your adventures and let us know if we may post them on our web gallery.
